Food & Cuisine

The unique Egyptian cuisine has been influenced throughout history, particularly by its neighbors from the Middle East. Persians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, and Ottomans (from modern-day Turkey) first influenced Egyptian cuisine thousands of years ago. More recently, the foods of other Arabic people in the Middle East such as the Lebanese, Palestinians, Syrians, as well as some foods from Europe, have affected Egyptian food. However, Egyptian cuisine maintains its uniqueness. After thousands of years, rice and bread remain staple foods and are considered national dishes.
A popular dish is Feteer (Egyptian Pie)
Feteer is one of the tastiest and heaviest Egyptian foods! It translates to pie but it is definitely more than just a pie. It is made of so many layers of thin buttery dough.
It can be served without any fillings along with molasses and tahini, which is a heavenly mixture that you have try!
Filled Feteer is also really popular with both sweet and savory fillings. Sausages, chicken with various sauces, vegetables, and minced meat are some of the few savory fillings Egyptians prefer.
Sugar custard pie and Nutella pie are the two most popular sweet pies.
Activities

Athletics and physical fitness played an integral role in the lives of Egyptians of any age. Sports were a part of the king's coronation, celebrations of military victories, religious ceremonies, and festivals. Games were obviously a popular pastime judging from the number of board games found and how frequently they appear in artwork. Senet, in fact, is shown being played by people and the gods in the afterlife and it is thought that the game mirrored one's journey through life toward eternity.
